Still An Eagle

What a way to kick-off this new BLOG… It’s called ‘Still An Eagle’ and was written for every person who has ever thought or been told that your best years are behind you…

Still an eagle.

An eagle upon an open field, by a busy road, upon a craggy mountain peak, perched high on a lofty branch, by a deep and shimmering sea.

The eagle, motley feathers, ruffled, munted, disheveled from many battles…this eagle’s eyes darted left and right, up, down, inside and out, confused, afraid. Many scars upon its tired, faltering body, reminders etched from battles past, some won, yet mostly born of demoralizing defeats.

Tormenting voices raged deep, ‘you can’t fly any more…you can’t fight…you can’t win…you can never win again!…you’re old…you’re no longer an eagle! Look at all your scars… always remember, you lost!…you can no longer soar high upon the winds!…your eyes are failing…no longer are they sharp…no longer can you spot your prey from on high… look at your broken claw…useless…you can’t even hold onto your prey… your days are past! Soon, you will die! No-one will miss you…no-one will even notice you’re gone!’

The eagle listened, its eyes glazed from many pains…it searched desperately about…the eagle by the deep shimmering sea, glanced down, caught sight its own reflection… ageing eyes, transfixed …there upon that vision… an eagle!…regal…majestic.

I am an eagle…I am still an eagle!…look at me! I am still an eagle! I can fly! I can soar! I can still ride the winds…I can still spy my prey! My claw is not broken…my claw is strong! My scars cannot hold me down…my scars cannot stop my flight! My feathers, yes old, do exactly what they are meant to! I can choose to rise from beside these waters… I can soar upon my eagle’s wings! I am an eagle! Yes, yes, yes…I am still an eagle!

The majestic eagle rode the thermals, rising toward a higher goal…the eagle, soaring ever higher into those vast radiant skies…Can there be a greater prize but to be as called to be…I am an eagle…riding high as Almighty God ordained to be… Still, an eagle.
